Lineage: Durban Poison Strain
Durban Poison traces back to the South African port city of Durban and is one of the most sativa-leaning plants in our catalogue at roughly 90% sativa. Our line is Durban crossed with an indica, which steadies the structure and brings the finish forward without taking the character out of it.
It is prized for a clear, energetic, and uplifting high, with THC typically ranging from about 15% to 25%.
It is known for a sweet, piney, anise-like aroma, driven by humulene, alpha-pinene and caryophyllene, and is a favorite for daytime focus and creativity.
The anise note is the giveaway. If you have smelled Durban Poison properly you will recognise it anywhere: sweet liquorice over pine, quite unlike the fruit-and-dessert profiles that dominate modern shelves.
Growing Durban Poison
A tall, vigorous plant that finishes in about 8-10 weeks and thrives outdoors, producing large, resin-coated colas. Expect around 450-500 g/m2 indoors and up to 600 g/plant outdoors, with plants reaching about 2 m (6.6 ft).
Eight to ten weeks is genuinely quick for something this sativa-dominant, and it is the main practical reason Durban Poison stayed popular while other long-flowering sativas fell out of favour. The indica in the cross is doing that work.
Two metres should be taken seriously outdoors, where it will stretch hard given root room. Indoors, top it early and expect to train, or you will run out of headroom before it finishes.
It is a hardy plant that copes with heat and variable conditions better than most modern hybrids, which makes it a sound outdoor choice in a warm summer. We rate it easy to grow.
Dry it slowly in cool, dark air. A hot, fast dry strips exactly the sweet-anise character you grew it for.
